STEP ONE: We ask questions then we listen.
We Translate that information into a plan..
Why was such a worthy organization in need of a special event? Over the years, The Children's Place had seen increased competition for philanthropic dollars. They knew they needed to change their development techniques and increase awareness of their mission. What was their strategy? They wanted to talk to potential donors in a more relaxed envirionment, but they knew their subject matter was graphic and often difficult to hear. They knew that the sheer numbers of child abuse statistics were often impossible to fathom, but they needed the audience to connect with these children in need. EPIC believed that by telling one story, they could tell many stories and not disturb their audience.
STEP TWO: We Act
The Children's Place had a true story to tell. EPIC crafted an origianl theatrical production that illuminated the big picture problem of child abuse by telling one girl's stroy. We bonded with the audience without putting them off by the brutality of the subject matter. Our goal became to enlighten with entertainment. The heart of the evening belonged to the work that The Children's Place accomplishes. Guests quickly recognized that every donation affects a real child's life and that, for every story told, there were thousands untold.
STEP THREE: We Labor
It was a challenge to ceate a production that entertained but reflected the somberness of the message. Using music, lighting and Cirque acts we highlighted serious, emotional themese with physical representations. It allowed showing some very tangible concepts. We used classic theatrical techniques to illustrate the dreams of these children, so the audience could emotionally conncect with them.
In The End...
The audience left with a visual memory of the type of work being done at The Children's Place. It made it much easier for the staff to explain their mission when asking for donations. It displayed the gravity of the situation without forcing the patrons to confront the ugly realities of the challenges of child abuse.
